Our Technology
Aqualung is developing a first of a kind non-pressurized gas separation membrane. Aqualung has assembled partnerships with leading global organizations that can optimize, advance and mass produce Aqualung’s product at significant scale and speed. Aqualung will continue to advance relationships to maintain it’s competitive advantage.

Aqualung offers a CO2 capture solution technology that separates CO2, using an environmentally friendly process that easily fits into existing industrial facilities.
The CO2 is captured in two stages; the first being bulk separation, and the second refines it’s purity.

Aqualung uses highly efficient hollow-fiber membraneds coated with thin polymer layer that separates CO2.
Within this layer there are amine groups that are fixed and some that are mobile.
As the name Aqualung suggests, the technology uses water vapor present in the flue gas witch is usually regarded as impurity.

CO2 reacts with these carriers and the other gasses do not react. Resulting in a purified CO2 stream.
Alongside our valuable customers, and partners, we seek to deploy clean, commercial and low-cost carbon capture solution to the world.
Benefits of Aqualung
Low complexity and environmentally friendly

No toxic additives of absorbents used means significantly lower operation risk and lower maintenance costs over time. This also avoids the logistics and costs of sourcing highly specialized absorbents.
Highly efficient

A remarkably more efficient membrane compared to the current standard, is achieved through the use of specialised coatings, establishing Aqualung as a market leader for carbon capture performance.
Highly favourable energy balance

The Aqualung system saves substantial energy costs compared to other membrane or absorbent-based systems as it requires zero absorbents or associated regeneration energy.
Fully scalable

The modular “Lego technology” can cost-effectively capture carbon even at small scale (<100,000 TPA) and at low CO2 concentration. This unlocks whole new markets, representing 85% of CO2 -emitters.
Highly compact

With down to 5% of the footprint of an absorption column, the Aqualung system can fit into existing plants where space is at a premium, and without major modifications to the exhaust structure or existing plant.
Research partnership

Aqualung is honoured to have NTNU as its R&D partner. We continue to forge new partnerships with other research institutes to remain at the cutting edge of carbon capture technology.
Aqualung is equipped for the future
Aqualung has recently signed a joint development agreement with one of the world’s largest hollow fiber manufactures to accelerate our speed to market. This partnership will provide Aqualung the capacity to deliver our product at commercial scale.
Alongside our strategic partners and investors, Aqualung looks to provide CO2 as a service to our customers starting at the fully installed Aqualung carbon capture unit all the way down to sequestration/utilization.
Testimonials
“Sigma Roc has evaluated various carbon capture technologies to meet our ambitious decarbonization targets. The Aqualung technology is well suited to the lime industry due to the modularity, small footprint and cost. Aqualung has been a great collaboration partner for the Köping kiln pilot and scale-up project. We look forward to continuing to work with them as the technology matures.”
